As the starting point in the Cultural Programme of The Portuguese Presidency, Elisabete Matos, the artistic director of the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos (São Carlos National Theatre) will present the Inaugural Concert, with the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa (Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra) under the baton of Joana Carneiro. It will play the first movement of Vianna da Motta’s symphony “À Patria” (“To My Country”). This will be followed by a selection of fados in an orchestral setting, under the curatorship of the Museu do Fado (Fado Museum). They will be sung by Sara Correia, Carminho, Ana Moura and Camané, and accompanied by the guitarist Marta Pereira da Costa.

The performance will end with a tribute to Amália, as part of the commemorations marking the centenary of her birth.
