The Seminar on “Arms and Explosives – Transversal dimension”, organised under the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, will be held on 14 April, from 08h15 (Lisbon time).
The initiative will be in video conference format, from the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon, and participants will include representatives of the European Commission (DG HOME – Firearms Task Force), EUROPOL, FRONTEX, UNODC – United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the Portuguese Polícia de Segurança Pública (Public Security Police) and the Spanish Guardia Civil (Civil Guard).
The opening session, chaired by the Portuguese Minister for Home Affairs (MAI), Eduardo Cabrita, can be livestreamed via the MAI Twitter account.
The seminar will provide for multidisciplinary debate on combating illegal trafficking in firearms and the challenges to the supervision and control of activities related to the manufacture, trade, storage, transport and use of explosive products, pyrotechnic products and explosives precursors. The consolidation of the recent legislation approved and the action plans in the area of explosives and pyrotechnic products will also be discussed.
Combating illegal trafficking in firearms is one of the priorities of Europe, advocated by several of its institutions, which have been working together to increase controls on arms and improve the security of European citizens.
