The Portuguese Minister of Maritime Affairs, Ricardo Serrão Santos, will mark European Maritime Day on 20 May by launching “Ocean Month”. As part of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Minister will present a website devoted to the topic, identifying the events scheduled over the course of June, in order to debate the future and the sustainability of the blue economy and fisheries, as well as the conservation of resources and their role in the economic post-pandemic recovery.
One of the highlights of “Ocean Month” will be the High-Level Conference on Integrated Maritime Policy, which will take place in Lisbon on 8 June, World Ocean Day. As part of a ministerial meeting, the conference will be attended by the European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius.
“Ocean Month” will be presented at a press conference, at the Centro Cultural de Belém, the headquarters of the Portuguese Presidency, in Lisbon, at 17h30 (Lisbon time).
