Portuguese Presidency to organise informal meetings of Eurogroup and ECOFIN in Lisbon

The informal meetings of Euro Area Finance Ministers (Eurogroup) and of European Union Economy and Finance Ministers (ECOFIN) will be held at the Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB) in Lisbon on 21 and 22 May. This is the first time these meetings will be held in person since Portugal took up the Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Eurogroup Meeting: 21 May

The meeting of Euro Area Finance Ministers will take place on the morning of 21 May, at 09h00 (Lisbon time). There will be a press conference after the meeting, which is scheduled for 12h00 (Lisbon time).

The meeting of European Union Economy and Finance Ministers will begin at 14h45 (Lisbon time). It will be attended by the Governors of the Central Banks of the EU Member States and the thematic sessions making up the informal ECOFIN meeting will be on the subject of “Reinforcing the common impact of monetary and budgetary policies” and “Preparing for future challenges: how to ensure a virtuous circle between financial and non-financial sectors”. At the end of the first day of business, at 6 pm (Lisbon time), the Portuguese
Minister of State for Finance, João Leão, will make statements to the press (in-person format only).

 

On Saturday, 22 May, at 09h00 (Lisbon time), the Ministers will resume the informal ECOFIN meeting, with two sessions: “Green Recovery: the future of environmental taxes in the European Union” and “The road to a balanced, inclusive and resilient recovery: preventing permanent scarring from the crisis”. There will be a press conference at the end of the meeting, which is scheduled for 12h30 (Lisbon time).
