On World Oceans Day, the Portuguese Minister of the Sea, Ricardo Serrão Santos, will be hosting a conference entitled “A Blue Agenda in the Green Deal”. This conference on the blue economy will be held in the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon on 8 June, under the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Work will begin at 10h00 (Lisbon time), in a ministerial meeting on integrated maritime policy, with participation from Ministers of the European Member States responsible for maritime policy, the European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius, high representatives
and European scientists.
In the second part of the conference in the afternoon, high-level speakers, including the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Ocean, Peter Thomson, will be discussing the four bases of the conclusions of the European Council on the Sustainable Blue Economy, approved on 26 May: healthy oceans, knowledge, prosperity and social equity.
