Ministers meet on Friday to discuss climate change and water management

Informal video conference of the Environment Ministers

Next Friday, 23 April, under the auspices of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Environment Ministers will be holding an informal video conference. The meeting will begin at 08h00 (Lisbon time) and will be chaired by the Portuguese Minister for the Environment and Climate Action, João Pedro Matos Fernandes.


The main topic of the gathering will be the impact of climate change on water management. Ministers will have the opportunity to discuss the European strategy on adaptation to climate change and to debate real water-management cases within the framework of the shortage of this resource. The agenda will also include a discussion on the international dimension of adaptation to climate change and its relationship with the objectives laid down under the Paris Agreement.

Press conference

At the end of the meeting, a press conference is scheduled for 14h45 (Lisbon time), with the Portuguese Minister for the Environment and Climate Action, João Pedro Matos Fernandes, and the European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius.
