Much could be said about Mário Soares’s trajectory. His contributions are etched in history and in Portugal’s relationship with the European Union. As a posthumous tribute, the College of Europe, the prestigious European teaching institution, appointed Mário Soares as the patron of the 2020-2021 academic year. This recognition was bestowed on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Portugal’s accession to the EEC, and it coincides with Portugal’s fourth Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
