Education plays a vital role in our society and it is the basis for personal fulfilment, employability and engaging in active and responsible citizenship. In line with the first principle of the European Pillar of Social Rights, the right of all to inclusive, quality education should always be assured. This is why the programme of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union emphasises the importance of creating conditions for inclusion and equity in education. 

To this end, the Conference on “Inclusion and Equity in Education” is aimed at promoting debate on this subject.

Therefore, apart from speeches from some specialists of recognised prestige, there will also be active participation by students and school principals from different Member States, sharing inclusive experiences to promote equity in access to education in the European area.
