All-Atlantic R&I for a Sustainable Ocean: Ministerial High-Level & Stakeholders Conference
Description
The High-Level Conference of Stakeholders on “All-Atlantic R&I for a Sustainable Ocean” promotes transatlantic cooperation in marine research and innovation (R&I) from “pole to pole”.
The conference will be attended by high-level representatives and stakeholders in marine R&I, along and across the Atlantic Ocean, in a dialogue that will contribute to reinforcing the scientific diplomacy efforts which began in Europe in 2011, with the launch of the Atlantic strategy and its first action plan (2013) and the signing of declarations in Galway and in Belém (in 2013 and 2017, respectively).
The event will be a step forward in transatlantic cooperation, as well as an opportunity to discuss the progress made in this area so far, endorsing a vision for the coming years and launching a “Pledging Platform” as a new approach to existing cooperation.
The discussions on the need for large-scale cooperation and new ocean observation methods linked to digitalisation processes represent an important innovative perspective for integration into the ocean-space-climate nexus, contributing to the subject of ocean sustainability.
